We all know The Hint's got the indie thing down, but you've never heard pop like this. Running at under three minutes, "Tell Me How You Really Feel" is the perfect start to introduce you to The Hint of 2008.
"Remember (No One Said It Was Easy)" is your new favorite song. I didn't even know these boys were capable of such bounce. Just the right mixture of sugar and spice, and an unforgettable guitar riff, shaken, not stirred.
Compared to the bridge & the verses, the chorus in "Running Scared" is rather unclimatic, and it ends oddly, however the random subtle sounds is almost a game to discover. You won't hear them all in one play.
"Menagerie is the term for a historical form of keeping wild and exotic animals in human captivity." Thank you, Wikipedia. The girl that speaks voice is so disturbing... This is the hardest and darkest song on the EP. You feel like you've just been caught in a whirlwind, it's dizzying but it feels rushed all at the same time.
"Across The Desert," kind of like "Across The Ocean." (They sound nothing alike but I think it's funny.) has a simplistic drum beat that drives the song and you probably won't notice. The overlapping vocals at the end takes the song from just average. It's a song that just flows, and helps to calm the mood and bring in the final song.
It seems like almost a let down to get to "Things We Do In The Dark" since it's the ballad of the EP, and also ends the album. If you're hoping for the bouncy energy of the first two tracks, you'll be disappointment. This is where the line "They can't stop us know" comes from, Joe's voice is spectacular, the piano is impressive and the song goes in a direction I didn't expect from this EP.
Six songs that are all cohesive but comes from different perspectives to make an overall impressive album, that really show what these boys can do besides being all indie and new wave. There's no "Kiss Kiss" or "The Antidote" on this EP. What I mean is... there's no song that's identifiably The Hint like in When It Gets Dark Enough.
It might be because it was only a six song EP, but I feel like I needed more, it's solid but at the end, you go, oh... is it over? Maybe I just want another song like "Remember," I'm a sucker for pop.
